China’s smartphone market is changing rapidly. On October 28, IDC released its report on the smartphone market in the third quarter of 2022. The report shows that in the third quarter, China’s smartphone shipments were about 71.13 million. Down 11.9% year on year, it continues the sluggish performance of the domestic market in the first half of the year. However, the high-end market didn’t change much. With an overall share of 22.4%, it’s still 1.9% higher than the previous year and 2.3% higher than the previous month.
Vivo returns to the first place in China’s smartphone market
For each brand, the top five domestic smartphone sales in the third quarter were: vivo, Glory, OPPO, Apple and Xiaomi. Except for Apple, the sales of the other four fell year on year.
Vivo’s sales in the third quarter was about 14.2 million units, down 20.5% year on year. Nevertheless, its market share reached 20.0%, returning to the top position in domestic market.
Honor sold about 12.7 million units in the third quarter, down 9.1% year on year. Even though, its market share remained at 17.9%. Among them, the HONOR 70 series has maintained the high-speed growth momentum since its listing. With its attractive appearance and good performance optimization, the X40 series has quickly become a bestseller product since its launch. And products such as Play Series 30 and Play Series 6 continue to be important choices for entry-level markets.
In the third quarter, OPPO sold about 11.6 million units, down 27.9% year on year, with a market share of 16.3%, ranking third. The sales volume of the Reno8 series continued to increase, maintaining a leading position in the midrange market. The A57 and A97 are the main models in OPPO’s sales with more than 1.5 million units.
Apple sold about 10.8 million units in the third quarter, up 2.5% year on year. It was the only brand among the top five that maintained positive growth, with a market share of 15.1%. Among them, the two products of the iPhone 14 Pro series are highly popular. Due to Apple’s initial lack of market expectations, so far, they are still in a state of tight supply.
In the third quarter, Xiaomi sold about 9 million units, down 17.9% year on year, with a market share of 12.7%. Redmi is still the main shipping force, with Redmi K50 series and Redmi Note 11 series as the main sales models. In addition to that, the newly launched Xiaomi 12S series has also gained good market reputation. Eventually, it will help promote the growth of Xiaomi in the high-end market in the future.
Folding screen smartphones are developing rapidly, and product prices are expected to continue to decline in the future
